Our Work: Commissioned Histories

Deakin Business School: A 50-year history

When Victoria’s fourth university was established in 1974, it was part of a new era for higher education in Australia. The aim for Deakin University was to be a catalyst for positive change and to be recognised as Australia’s most progressive university. Business Studies was one of the university’s foundation schools and was at the forefront of the academic offerings at Deakin from the very beginning. From its world-first online MBA program, pioneering internationalisation, and international recognition through global accreditation, Deakin Business School defines the institution’s unique character and identity.

As part of Deakin University’s 50th anniversary celebrations, Way Back When was engaged to write a history of business education at Deakin and its world-renowned Deakin Business School. Co-authored by Deborah Lee-Talbot and Nicolette Snowden, the history features alumni profiles, vignettes, a foreword by the Chancellor, and an epilogue by the Business School Dean.
